Key Lessons from ‘Finding a Needle in a Haystack’

On Tuesday 4th August, we hosted a webinar titled ‘Finding a Needle in a Haystack: How Text Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Process Automation can deliver comprehensive insight into large volumes of documents’.

As part of the webinar, we discussed the ways by which Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing and Text Analytics are enabling organisations to automate time and labour-intensive processes and to extract meaningful, actionable insights from their data and documents.

Alongside members of the Analytics Engines team, we were joined by James Danek, Applications & Assessment Team Leader at Innovate UK, who discussed the impacts that our solution, Cobalt Grant Manager has had on operations at Innovate UK and how it has helped them respond to some of the unique challenges presented by the COVID-19 crisis.

  1. Automating Manual & Intractable Processes [@6m53s]
    Head of Data Solutions at Analytics Engines, Conor Dumigan spoke with James Danek, Applications & Assessment Team Leader at Innovate UK about the impact that our solution, Cobalt Grant Manager has had on operations at Innovate UK and how it has helped to automate time and labour-intensive processes.
  2. Find a Needle in a Haystack [@9m20s]
    Paul Barber, Head of Engineering at Analytics Engines showcased the technology behind Cobalt Grant Manager as well as the solution itself, demonstrating its ability to identify duplicate or potentially fraudulent documents and to assign documents to appropriate assessors.
  3. The Evolution of AI for NLP [@20m40s]
    Analytics Engines, Chief Technical Officer Alastair McKinley began his portion of the webinar with a brief history of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in relation to Natural Language Processing and outlined some of the technological developments enabling more intelligent interrogation of documents.
  4. Ideas rather than just Keywords [@24m42s]
    Alastair went on to discuss “Embeddings”; vector representations of a piece of a text that is learned by a neural network. He then spoke about Semantic Search, and its ability to enable users to search for ideas rather than keywords.
  5. Applying these technologies to a new business environment [@31m05s]
    Alastair concluded his section with a short demonstration of our solution, FarSight | Horizon Scanner. The demonstration illustrated the ways by which these technologies can be applied to a variety of different business environments and use cases.
  6. Key lessons and Q&A [@34m10s]
    Conor wrapped up the webinar highlighting some of the key learnings and before breaking into the Q&A session.
