Another busy week has come to an end. As we relax and look forward to the weekend, here are some of the key insights from the world of data analytics that caught our eye over the past seven days.
In our “Data trends to look out for in 2021” blog post, we discussed the impact of COVID-19 on the working environment, and how the pandemic had highlighted a growing need for data analytics and automation.
These sentiments were reiterated recently in a report from Gartner which stated that “the effects of the pandemic forced many to shift gears in 2020 and pursue — or at least actively consider — more extensive automation of certain legal activities”.
The report focuses on the legal sector and goes on to outline several key trends impacting the industry. In the report, Gartner estimates that by 2024 “legal departments will have automated 50% of legal work related to major corporate transactions”, citing Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning as the key technologies that are driving change.
These are incredibly powerful technologies and we have seen their impact in solutions like Farsight Horizon Scanner. It utilises Natural Language Processing and Semantic Understanding to process data from over 40,000 global news sites – essentially operating as an early warning system for reporting on possible contaminants entering the food chain.
As more businesses move to adopt data analytics as part of their operations, accessibility will be critical. In this report from IBM, they discuss the accessibility and impact of data virtualisation, stating that it will enable “real-time analytics without data movement, duplication, ETL processes, or added storage requirements”.
