Founded in 1824, The National Gallery is situated in London’s Trafalgar Square and counts some of the world’s best-loved paintings among its 2,300-strong collection
In August 2018, Analytics Engines was appointed as partner to collaborate on the implementation of an ongoing data analytics solution within the organisation.
The purpose of the solution was to use data analytics to create more robust reporting on visitor experiences.
‘Perspective’ is an analytics solution which allows stakeholders to make data-driven strategic decisions by harnessing and examining data from a disparate range of sources. During the build, the Analytics Engines team focused on developing an intuitive platform enabling the greatest possible utility to all users across the organisation.
Work began on October 1st 2018 and the solution was launched to the organisation within four months. The speed of the roll-out has allowed The Gallery to spark off new conversations using shared information and data sources. The Gallery is now looking at ways to integrate machine learning and forecasting models alongside visitor data.
Since the roll-out, some of the key benefits to The Gallery have included:
- greater transparency, communication and teamwork
- improved decision-making processes
- operational efficiencies and optimisation of workflows
- ease of access and utility for the end-user
- deeper relationships with stakeholders
- augmented visitor experiences
- improved visitor flow
- increased visitor satisfaction.
In addition to the new dashboard and visualisations, Analytics Engines also guided The Gallery in understanding the underlying data architecture and data warehousing.
Senior Manager Data & Insights at The National Gallery Casey Scott-Songin said: “Right across the organisation there’s a sense of trust in the data. Everyone is unified around a single source of truth and using the data to make better decisions.
“One of the best things about working with Analytics Engines is that everybody has been flexible and adaptable. Any time an issue came up that could have been a blocker, everyone at Analytics Engines was really quick to find solutions and find an approach that worked. That was the reason why we were able to launch the solution as quickly as we could.”
