What we’ve been reading this week – 9th December 2021

Driving value from data is not without its challenges. Siloed datasets and inconsistent quality can often inhibit the potential positive impact that data can have on an organisation. In this week’s reading list, we take a look at the world of data quality and integrity.

Data quality presents a significant challenge for organisations hoping to adopt data analytics as a core part of their operations. In a recent news report from GOV.UK, they explore the importance of data quality and offer guidance on the importance of communicating data quality.

In this article from Forbes, they explore the broad impacts of data and discuss how data is helping to drive disruption across a range of industries. In the article they discuss how inconsistent and incomplete data can “prevent a data-first strategy from getting off the ground”.

Siloed data presents an equally significant challenge, as highlighted in this article from Forbes, which states that siloed data “doesn’t just affect operations internally — it has a direct negative impact on customer and end-user experience”. The article goes on to explore some of the way organisations can overcome their data siloes.

These challenges are explored further in another article from Forbes which suggests that “By beginning with a cultural shift, and then a technology shift, you’ll set your teams up for the type of long-term, big-picture thinking that not only improves work now but prevents future silos from forming.”
