What is Chat GPT and what does it mean for my business?
In a recent article, Gartner discussed generative AI-driven chatbots, such as Chat GPT and explored some of their potential use cases. In the weeks following, Chat GPT has grown increasingly popular with many organisations, giving serious consideration to the ways by which the technology might support their business.
What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is a natural language chatbot that utilises OpenAI’s GPT-3 suite of large language models. GPT-3 is a deep-learning language model that can produce human-like text. While certainly not the first AI-driven chatbot, ChatGPT has caught the attention of both businesses and the public in a way that no other data-driven tool has done before.
Analytics Engines Chief Technology Officer, Alastair McKinley said “Chat GPT has had an incredible impact on public perception of AI-driven technologies. It has demonstrated real-world use cases to a broad audience. I have no doubt that we will see significant acceleration of generative AI tools in 2023”.
Augmenting the human in the loop
Software engineers are increasingly turning to GPT technology to quickly create advanced programs and code with much less effort. Chat GPT itself can understand natural language requests and can produce code with greater efficiency than a human counterpart.
Alastair said “As a productivity tool, GPT-3 can quickly produce complex skeleton code upon which software engineers and data scientists can apply their individual experience and expertise. Many feel that tools like Chat GPT and GPT-3 will render certain knowledge roles obsolete. Today, these tools will instead be used to enhance and augment the capability and effectiveness of the human in the loop”.
Finding a needle in a haystack
The application of Chat GPT and GPT-3 is not limited to software development. A particular strength of the tool is its ability to process and extract meaningful insights from large volumes of unstructured data.
At Analytics Engines, we are using GPT-3 to develop robust search systems that help to significantly expedite information retrieval. In addition, our solution can produce relevant, contextual insights based on natural language requests.
“We are currently delivering a project for a client that utilises GPT-3 technology. We have developed an intuitive search solution that processes user queries, searches large volumes of unstructured data (in this case documents) and produces succinct natural language summaries in response. GPT-3 has massively increased the ability of AI to reason about unstructured data which can unlock a lot of new powerful features for data solutions” said Alastair.
What does it mean for our customers and partners?
The application of GPT-3 within our technology stack at Analytics Engines means that we can focus more on the cognitive aspects of the work we do, like taking time to solve complex data problems for our customers and getting to the nuggets of gold much faster. We always want to use the best technology available to us to deliver the best solutions – OpenAI’s GPT-3 suite is no different in this respect.
